On our peninsula we have extremely high numbers of kiwi. (Last years Rangitane Reserve kiwi listening returned 18.3 calls an hour) We also have 400+ residential properties. Many of us are incredibly privileged to be living with kiwi in our back yards.

It's a huge responsibility to own a dog in a kiwi zone, Here's our suggestions for ensuring our dogs never meet a kiwi:

Kerikeri Peninsula has one of the largest populations of kiwi living around people anywhere in New Zealand. We think that is incredibly special, not to mention all our other native bird species and the cool bugs like weta that are all on the increase along with native lizards: the geckos and skinks. All thanks to more widespread pest control.
